Company Profile

In 1946 a small grinding shop opened for business on Center Street in New Rochelle, New York. Starting with three machines, New Rochelle Precision Grinding Corporation ground components to various precision sizes and tolerances.

Just one year earlier company founder David G. Osterer had been a young attorney, practicing law. But one day, in lieu of payment from a client firm with a precision grinding department, Osterer agreed to accept a small percentage of that company. Shortly thereafter he parted ways with his new partners, who offered him three centerless grinding machines as a settlement. Osterer accepted, and New Rochelle Precision Grinding Corporation was born.

Over the years the business grew, thanks to the founder's keen business sense, a willingness to work hard, and plenty of enthusiasm around the shop.

In 1969 New Rochelle Precision Grinding Corporation opened a second factory in Clifton, New Jersey, at 4 Wellington Street. Four years later the firm again increased its capacity by moving its main factory to 945 Spring Road in Pelham Manor, New York.

In its 62-year history NRPGC has ground precision components for the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy, and NASA. Its private-sector client list includes such corporate giants as RCA, IBM, Bulova, and Western Electric, as well as numerous machine shops, aircraft companies, steel companies, and others.

NRPGC is continually investing in new equipment in order to produce quality parts at competitive prices. The firm specializes in in-feed, thru-feed, centerless, and crush grinding of various types of material, including ceramic and carbide. Over the past few years the NRPGC has also invested substantial sums in modern bar grinding equipment. Its capacities in this area go up to 7-inch-diameter solids and 10-inch-diameter tubes of up to 20-foot lengths. This equipment makes the company highly competitive in mill run type orders.

NRPGC has not forgotten its role as a corporate citizen. Perhaps its most striking contribution is the David G. Osterer Center named after the firm's founder. The facility is located at the headquarters of United Cerebral Palsy of Westchester in Rye Brook, New York. This center can service over a thousand physically challenged individuals. It has various programs such as Day treatment center, Day Camp, Work Shop, School, and many others.

The future for NRPGC looks bright.  The company continues to strive for the highest quality and service, which is the heart of our business.  Marty Osterer the grandson of the founder, represents the third generation, and is on track along with the dedicated and loyal employees to bring the company to yet another level of excellence.
